Corporate storytelling is a crucial part of any company’s communication. This is true whether we are talking marketing a product, pitching an idea to colleagues or communicating a new strategy to the employees. But why is storytelling really so important?
STORIES CAN PRESENT PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS
Communication has always had a basis in the art of storytelling. Ever since the dawn of time, human beings have used stories to present complex issues and find solutions.
Just look at the ancient Greek stories for example. The story of Oedipus, which later inspired the naming of the Oedipus complex – theorized by Sigmund Freud, and later expanded upon by Carl Jung.
Storytelling has many useful functions internally in a company. Whether it’s the manager giving a big speech to motivate his colleagues. Top management launching a new strategy for change management in the company. Or a complex idea pitched at a meeting for co-workers.
Many global companies make use of a corporate story – a story based on the company’s values, vision, and core tasks. By letting the story be a guideline for the rest of the company, values and information can be streamlined and create a focused basis for the company.
